hi
i was carrying my new lesiure battery home in my car but when i opened the boot it had tipped over on its side spilling acid over the car.
question is can this be refilled.
i have added distilled water and recharged it but the sight glass on it wont go green.
the cells are covered with fluid but i am not sure how much more if any should be added.
can i save this battery?.

Hi Doug

This is a job only the trained / experienced should take on,

Yes it can be done, your local battery dealer may do this for you, the acid has to be drained out, acid of the correct specific gravity has to be mixed, then the battery filled, this is the only time you put acid into a battery is when it has been lost by spilling out,

This is a VERY HIGH risk operation due to the acid, not a job I would recommend,

As for the acid in the boot of the car Exclamation hope the damage is minimal

The acid spilt in your car needs to be cleaned out THOROUGHLY. We had one split a couple of years ago. It was replaced under warranty but the establishment replacing it did not clean up the mess made. Consequently we had further trouble. Thinking the worst of the dealer doing the replacement we thought it had just been repaired somehow & that it had gone again. No it was the residual mess they did not clean up that was causing the bother. I since have had to have the vehicle professionally cleaned etc etc . This involved taking out the seat carpet etc etc and dealing with the problem. I am no expert on what was used but maybe someone here is and will be on later. But this acid is very caustic & can eat through whatever it comes into contact with. A bag I had stored near the spill was eaten right through. Handle every thing with carethat it has come into contact with. I could have gone back to the certain establisment but just couldnt spare the time or the fuel involved so got someone local to us to do it.

Hope this helps.

hi
the acid ate through the carpet which i had to cut out and bin. i had to wash the boot out.
the acid has gone now but it took the paint off the floor so thats been repainted.
any ideas of cost to get the battery refilled as apposed to buying a new one.
