I am very very confused. It's a minefield of jargon and I don't understand any of it. Please could someone point me in the right direction?

My husband and I are both tall (he is 6ft 2 and I am 5ft 10) we have a 3 year old and an 18 month old. We would like a camper suitable for us all to go on summer weekend/week trips. We live in Cornwall so don't need to go far - want an adventure for the children really.

Only have Ģ10K to spend. On board toilet would be useful but not essential.

What would be reliable, relatively cheap to run and fit us all in?

PPPPPLLLLLEASE shine some light for me?

Thanks!

L

Don't get confused... at Ģ10k you are in bargain basement country. Probably looking pre 1987 so just start looking at vans in your price range. Each time you see one you'll learn a little more. There will be different layouts, sizes, features etc. If you can find a private sale look at the owner as much as the van, how long have they had it? What's been done etc. An older... but well loved motorhome should see you just as well as a newer one costing many thousands more. I spent Ģ8K on a luxurious motorhome from the last century (1983) and she has taken us right across europe. Don't be confused. just get out there and see whats around. Have fun. Phil

Hi, Lucy

I would say welcome to the site, but I see you've been here once before - ** here **

I also see that your budget has increased - assuming you didn't buy in the intervening 12 months. But I think the advice given last year still applies this year. Try scanning through the Ebay list - ** here ** to see what you can get for your budget. I think you probably need to look at something a little bigger than what we understand as a "campervan" - these are usually small van conversions, ideal for two people.

Really, the best thing to do is to try to get to a motorhome dealer or a show, and just look around. Don't worry about the ticket price - just look for makes and models, and see what sort of thing fits in with what you require. Then you can come home and do some research on the models you think suit.

Gerald

Hi Lucy

There are some great buys out there for your budget, but dont jump in with both feet until youve tested the water.

Get in a few to see how they fit, sit on the loo, stand in the shower and lie on the beds, I suggest 2nd hand dealers, where you can see a good few vans of older models to see the type that suits.

Hi

your problem on that budget will be getting 3-point rear seat belts, but it can be done. If it's only for summer/short stay use why not consider a mazda bong? They are imported used then converted to campers so you get a lot for your money and the benefits of a car-like vehicle with elec windows etc. You'd need an awning with it AVA for example have their own made for the tailgate, quick-erect sort.

AVA
Imperial

are 2 companies there are loads more, there's also a user club called " bongo fury" or similar try a google search.

Or a 2nd hand

Or a 2nd hand hightop such as an autosleeper which will sell on easily...but check the seat belts are factory fitted not added lap belts.

Lucy

10k will get you something quite nice from Germany. Look on www.mobile.de under the wohnmobil/reisemobil section (you can also select english language version of the site to make it easier to search).
