Just had exceptionally good job done on rusty bits around botton corner of windscreen, bodywork/ paint job much better than before. APP Sheffield did this without expense of taking screen out, as that was much bigger quote. No water coming in, but screen not as 'tight' to glass at corners as it is elsewhere as obviously it has been lifted. When I press on, I can squeeze residual water that has collected ( very slight ) Will this cause rust? or is it just collecting a little between rubber/glass and normal? Do I need to get it additionally sealed? - - Helena x
Hi Vardy, Yes in a word putting in extra sealant will help, keeping the water out is priority, I feel however that this area will rust again despite the best efforts of you bodywork man, in his defence, if the manufacturer could not get it right with new metal, what chance had he with rusty metal,
delaying the corrosion is the best you can hope for and keeping water out is the first step

Thanks Geo, Yes, I'm watching it like a hawk, as it's got to stay outdoors, and I'm in denial! ( Sort of It won't rust if I watch it kind of thing ). Have seen something on here to seal it with, so will look it up, but needs to be dry doesn't it - first? - H x
Hi Helena,
our Harmony lets water in when weve had heavy rain, we have had the windscreen resealed and it still gets in, keep your eye on yours, it runs down on the inside under the dashboard in the corner on the passenger side, where the wheel arch is, and occasionally in the same place on the drivers side, sealing the windscreen didnt stop it so it must be entering somewhere else, check if your carpet is dry in those areas, the corners of the windscreen are notorious rust spots as is the wheel arches, if you keep on top of them they should be ok, Anne & Tony
It is always worth checking the drain is not blocked on the heater scuttle (where the air is taken into the van from the outside) the drain can fill with leaves and gunge and stop the water escaping which then fills the heater till it appears in the cab giving the impression that the screen is leaking.
If you fill a watering can with a rose on and tip it (like rain falling) in were the air enters the heater it should appear under the van not in the van. (DONT USE A HOSE PIPE)

Hi - Just to get back to you all to thank you for your suggestions. Keep wondering how you are Anne and Tony! How near to Sheffield do you travel? My van needs friends. Also Martyn, I will be rootng around that heater - What the heck is a heating scuttle? ( Don't worry, I'll find it ). I will be getting some of the glue stuff that the sinister looking elf suggests too..... can think of 1001 uses for it. Have a better Saturday than me - I'm waiting hand and foot on 'flu man' Best wishes, - Helena xx This is what I would like to do to him.
Hi Helena, Yes to your first question (Dry)
You will find your heater Scuttle were the Manufacturer left it, either one in the centre or two scuttles equally spaced at the bottom of your screen (outside) you might call it a grill, inside your engine bay there will be a metal or plastic water collector that should as Martyn has said drain out to the road, if the drain is blocked it will overflow into the heater and come inside the Van,
The speed of the corrosion is directly linked to the amount of TLC that your other half gets during his MAN FLUE episode, this is a very serious man type ailment, the less you give him the faster the rust appears, you have been warned

Yup Geo - got the scuttle thing sussed now! - Just got as far as bonnet up and looking when pathetic zombie in dressing gown's 'attention' radar locked onto my flightpath. Gotta do invalid cookery now. Going to sleep in van (me) tonight if he doesn't pipe down. H x
I will be getting some of the glue stuff that the sinister looking elf suggests . . .
I've been called some things in my time but not 'sinister' . . I'm a luverly boy
