hello everybody

I am a new member who is looking at purchasing a hymer.

having looked at the layouts at deepcar am leaning heavily towards the E650

the one main problem that I have is the lack of information on the web concerning this model, indeed this site contains little detail as far as I can see.

There are also very few available, were there problems?

would ideally like to find an independant review

thanking you in anticipation

Ian Smile

sorry i misposted in wrong section earlier

Hi Ian,
I agree, there isn't much info available on the 'e' class Hymers although if you look at this site you will see all the different layouts . . the 'e' class was introduced in 1995 as an upgraded Fiat version. We have an 'e-510' on a Fiat Ducato base . . having had a couple of [other make] motorhomes we opted to change from our last motorhome [which was only 18 months old] to this 1997 Hymer 'e-510' because it has far better build quality and is much much more comfortable, I doubt you will be disappointed, infact many will give you looks of envy.
MMM did do a range of tests on various Hymers inc the 'e-510' which gave a glowing report and as Hymers have a good reputation I have no doubt that the model you are thinking of would have a similar good report

Hi Ian
I have an E650 and find it's excellent in all respects - try this link - http://www.hymer.ag/medien/pdf/1103210524-Hymermobil_EnS-Klasse_Prospekt_12_96.pdf - it's the catalogue for the "E" series - unfortunately it's in German, but it's not too hard to understand, I used http://world.altavista.com/ to translate the main titles.

thanks for the comments, have downloaded brochure which gives a little bit more in terms of technical specifications.
As far as i can make out the camper i am currently looking at has an increased carrying capacity to 4.0 tons, are there any issues that i need to be concerned about while driving with an ordinary license?
secondly does anybody know what type of chassis a 10/97 e650 would have, it's on a smiley face, would it have a double floor?

Hi
I'm sure you would be satisfied with a Hymer. I'm on my second one, a year 2000 B544. Very comfortable and reliable.
I am very interested in sprokit's link to a hymer website for brochures for discontinued models.
Hymer used to publish this but don't now.
Does Sprokit or anyone else have a link for a brochure on B544, yr2000 model, or thereabouts?
A circuit diagram would also be good as it's not in the Manual.
If so, would be grateful if you could post it ( them ).

Incidently, this is the link for the full Owners Manual, I think for all models, for about this vintage. It is about 250 pages, so be patient.

Have a look at http://www.hymer.ag/medien/pdf/1103205716-Hymermobil_Prospekt_12_99.pdf - covers the 2000 B544 - tchnical details start on page 30.

For those wanting to find other models no longer in production - start at this link - http://www.hymer.com/de/index.php?kategorie=100105 - yes it's in German, but it's not that hard to figure out and use:
At "Art des Fahrzeugs" - select 'Reisemobil' .... at "Art der Suche" - select 'Modelljahr' ....... at "Modelljahr" - select the year of your vehicle ..... at "Modell" - select the type (e.g.HYMER B Klasse, HYMER S Klasse etc) then click on "Ergebnis anzeigen lassen" (means "click here to see result") - this will take you to a .pdf file name - click on it and you'll have your model catalogue - sometimes takes a bit of time to load, but hey, what do you want for nothing Rolling Eyes

Hi Ian

My E650 is a '97 - the Gross Vehicle Weight (max weight) is 3,500 Kg, but I'm given to understand this can be put up to 3,850 Kg without having to do anything to the vehicle - I may be wrong in this but the 'Katalogue' shows 3,500/3,850 and a corresponding increase in payload of 350 Kg. Can't see where you get 4.0 tonnes from!

As far as your driving licence is concerned, provided you passed your driving test before 01 January 1997, you automatically got the right to drive a vehicle up to 7,500 Kg Gross Weight - passing the Driving Test after this date restricts you to 3,500 Kg GVW.

The chassi is a Fiat Maxi chassis and the floor is not double, but don't worry about it, I've just returned from Europe and even without the heating on there was a 10 degree difference between inside and outside temperature (no, it wasn't colder inside than outside Razz )

hi keith
thank for your response

i used babel fish to translate, original ( aufgelastet auf 4.0 to,)
babel fish translation (up-rested on 4.0 tons)
section at the end of the advert is GG 4000kg.

A friend has also translated the advert and it is his opinion that the vehicle has had it carrying capacity uprated to 4000 kg
does this make sense?

good new re the driving license!

that is a very good temperature differential has it been winterised or is it standard?

tried to download the owners manual but i got an error eventually

where did you purchase you e650 and is there anything in particular i should look out for. it is 10/97 with 83500 km on the clock TUV to 10/07

does the increased weight of the vehicle cause problems as it shares the same motor as the 5 series ie 544 584 etc

thank you in anticipation, if it suits my email address is icerparker@clara.co.uk
