This may be a stupid question but here goes. Most Camping sites have a waste water area for emptying your tank. I note that this is usually a metal cover over what I take to be a drain. Is the correct method that you drive over this and then release your dirty water.? If so how do you know when you are over it apart from if you kept jumping out of the vehicle to check positioning. Also should you fit some form of pipe from the waste tank to ensure it goes into the drain. The last site I visited had a man hole type cover but nothing to lift it and no instructions so I took my waste home. Also whilst on the site I saw no signs for as they used to be called Elsen points for your toilet has that changed.

A short length of pipe on the waste outlet is a good idea... lets you direct the flow... also helps 'cos you should be able to see it in your side mirror for positioning...

I noticed on a recent visit to a CC site the chemical closet emptying was just that C C E P

As Ray says, if in doubt ask the warden/site owner

Hi Grumpyman

For full independance take your own manhole keys (you'll need 2 sets, the plastic ones and the cast iron ones) and assorted tools to prise open difficult covers.

It's much easier to find a manhole than to find a man with the keys 24/7.

There's usually a manhole by the toilet blocks and most campsites so far have been happy for us to use them, particularly if we confirm we do not require any help.

Best of luck,

Duadua.
