hi all, have recently seen posts on these 2 cards is one better than the other? or are they the same thing? i'm looking to tour abroad next year and would like to get discounts wherever possible,which should i get or should i get both? your views/comments most welcome and appreciated, cheers astra.
It is a pain having to get all these cards, it depends on where you travel.
I suppose you could liken them to our CC & CCC here in the UK, if you use these sites then it does pay to have both, you couldn't get CCC rate on a CC site and likewise.
The same applies to sites that use COS or ACSI. Mind you there are always exceptions to the rule, you will find somewhere a site that does give a discount on either.
The ACSI Card [MHF Link] gives low season cheap prices on 1,000's of mostly continental campsites. It costs around Ģ6 with the campsite book. ACSI is a Netherlands based camping organisation a bit like Camping Cheques but you don't have to pay up front; just produce the card at the listed sites for the lower prices. Excellent system which we prefer to Campng Cheques.
The CCI card is different and can be used as identification at most continental sites which is better than using a passport. It also gives some insurance (provides protection against legal liability for bodily injury and/or property damage to third parties in camping grounds.?). Again costs about Ģ5 a year.
Astra - last year we took the CCI card to France and found it useful at those sites who would otherswise wish to keep your passport for security purposes. It occasionally gave us a euro off the price of a site.
This year I think we will take both. The ASCI card will pay for itself after only one or two nights and will give us a broader range of more expensive sites to visit without paying the full cost which we are normally reluctant to do because we do not use all the extra facilities available.
However the choice is yours as they say
Enjoy your trip however you manage it.

They are quite different in intent;
the ACSI Card [MHF Link] is designed primarily as a discount card, although participating sites are happy to accept [and keep at times] in lieu of passport / CCI . see http://uk.campingcard.com/
Easiest place to get them from here is probably Vicarious Books
[http://www.vicariousbooks.co.uk/products.htm]
the CCI card is available to members of affiliated clubs and has full passport details on it. It provides some insurance, and occasionally gets you a discount of 5% or 10%. See download from: www.ctc.org.uk/resources/Travel_with_CTC/CampingCarnet.pdf
You need to be a member of CC C&CC CTC or similar
[there is also a Scandinavian card for travel there, but you can get them from campsites when you are there.
