Evening all
The van is on order, and I see I will have to pay a fair sum for gas bottles (initially) and gas.
Having seen references to the Gaslow system do you experienced campers think it worth having the Gaslow system installed from the outset.
I see my dealer is listed as an installer, and I think I fancy just popping into an lpg station to top up the gas rather than messing about with bottles. Bearing in mind I intend to go to Europe in 2007, as well as UK.
I have seen references to an installation cost of about £560 in other posts.
Your thoughts would be appreciated.
Paul

I paid about £465 at the Shepton show in September for two 6kg bottles fitted with automatic changeover. I had them fitted for convenience rather than cost saving.

I think CMR charged me about £450 for 2x11kg bottles and a manual xover at Peterborough. As I full time in my van they have paid for themselves

Thats the thing, you've got to weigh up how much you'll use your mh and what your estimated gas usage will be. That way you can work out if a gaslow system will be a saving or just a luxury gadget.

Has anyone done a cost comparison on this? I can't possibly see how you could claw back £500. Even abroad, you can always buy local bottles and regulators.

Hi Paul

Unless you're intending to go full-timing I doubt you could hope to recoupe your outlay on a Gaslow system. However, as a convenience it certainly has its attractions, especially if your not physically up to lugging gas bottles in and out of the locker. Also remember that you can transfer the bottles onto your next van when you sell up so they do have their attractions.

The convenience is considerable. Another factor in the cost equation is that there is less demand to pay for electric hook up. 1 month in Norway, we used no hook up at all, and saved up to £5 per night. Last year we used elec when we could to save gas

The cost to us if changing 2 x 6kg Calor Gas bottles would be £29
To refill our 2 x 6kg Gaslow refillable bottles is £11
We can top up our gas supply when we want to rather than having to wait for the bottles to run out
We no longer have to pay for electric hook up
We do not have to worry about running out of gas when abroad
If we decide to change our van, then the Gaslow system can be removed and fitted to the new vehicle
It will take a while for us to recoup our outlay, but in the long run we feel we have made the right choice for us.

Hi, I have a Gaslow system and I wouldn't change, but if you look into the economics of it then it would be more cost effctive to stay with changing the bottles and adaptors, but as i said above and if i had a choice again I would still go with the Gaslow system, the only thing that i would suggest is that if you have the room in may be worth keeping it one Gaslow bottle and one backup Propane ? albeit that isn't really necessary ?
