Hi people my misses and i have just purchased a 1988 ford econoline and would like to ask if any one has any tips for us. We dont know anything about useing it so we need all the help we can get. we are going to try all the appliances in a minute i.e. air con unit, the onan gennie, heating, fridge, and cooker, but if i cannot get them going we are stuffed as we do not have any knoledge about RVs so i guess you could call us mad but we saw it and had to have it. hopefully someone out there has got one or had one that will be able to help

thanks guys

Hi Smudge

I don't know a thing about the exact model motorhome that you have, so as far as "down to detail" help I will be no use ...BUT most motorhomes and RVs have similar fittings and systems... so in the event that you do not find another owner prepared to help just ask your general questions here but keep the questions specific and add as much detail as you can about each system you are trying to get to grips with... we have loads of folk on here that should be able to help you....

If you have a digital camera and know how to do it a picture can be better than a thousand words... get the camera out... let us see what van you have...

Don't forget to use the search facility on here to find threads about specific things.... gas , batteries, grey water, black waste...... that should keep you busy for a bit Laughing

Hi Smudge
Welcome to MHF and the wonderful and frustrating world of RV's Laughing
You say that you have a Ford Econoline, can you be a bit more specific mate. I am guessing that you have a Class C (Overcab bed) type RV because in the USA, the Econoline is basically like a Transit and is the cab/base chassis onto which a body is built. The converter will have their name onto the coachwork I would guess (ie Damon, Gulfstream etc), so this info would be useful too.
Whereabouts do you live, because there may be someone close to you who would be able to help you out? Another thought is for you to attend one of the meets or rallies coming up and get some help there as well. We are holding a meet in February at the Dirty Duck (please look in the meets diary towards the bottom of the front page for details) and if you are able to attend that I can assure you of some time and advice form myself and others.
Regarding the interior lights, some may be 12 volt and some may be mains, so make sure that you have it hooked up to the mains to check. Also remember that many American light fittings have a dimmer facility, which will look like a small button, this rotates and gives a step type dimming and off, so it may be that the light is switched off on the button.
Could also be that the bulb has blown mate Laughing Laughing
As Mike said, please come back with any specific questions but do try to give as much info as possible about what you are struggling with so that we can identify the item.....
Good luck with it mate

Keith
