Hi all.

Have been spending a lot of time here lately, and have to thank you all for the loads of information and humour provided.

My girlfriend and I are planning on moving to Australia and so are leaving London in June. However we'd always planned to travel around Europe as a sabbatical first before arriving in Oz while we had no commitments in either country. Having talked about the trip for a long time we eventually came to the idea that it would great to get something like a vw camper. This would allow us to stretch our budget and length of holiday a lot further. Not to mention the freedom that it brings.

However after more thought, and with a trip length of around 6 months, realised this could soon get very claustrophobic and have come to the conclusion that perhaps a coach built is the way to go. Of course, what started as simple idea has now grown from a simple camper, to it seems something like a 6.5m (max) C class to provide us with a comfortable existence. We intent to spend extended time parked up relaxing, rather than madly hoping around trying to see every church and museum in Europe.

My main question I suppose, is whether this is being a little too dramatic, and taking on more than necessary? I've never motorhomed, and my girlfriend has somewhat limited experience when she was younger. We realise there are smaller vans out there, but question the long term practicality of over cab sleeping, and don't want to be making and unmaking a bed that doubles as our dining area. So a rear lounge or fixed bed, with dining up front looks the best for us. Would love the new Rapido 707, but must stop reading the adverts in magazines and focus on the articles because this is clearly not going to happen!!

This brings us to other main dilemma buying and selling. Given that will need to sell it in November and relatively quickly to catch our flights, the buy back scheme some dealers offer seems ideal, but most only offer 50%. The dealers we've seen so far have coach builts starting at around £10k+, so that would mean a £5k loss. We only wanted a net spend of around £3k, but would spend up to maybe £12k initial outlay if the net result wasn't too bad. Ideally though an outlay of around £5 or £6k is the target. What sort of loss would be reasonable to expect in November though, given that we would probably end up selling back to a dealer rather than messing about and hanging around in the UK trying to sell privately?

We're really worried about being stuck with a white elephant, that no one's willing to touch around that time of year. Of course we could put it in store and have a European holiday home should we come back from time to time.

I realise this has been a large post, but if anyone actually made it to the end, your opinions on any or all of the above would be greatly appreciated!!
