Hi I have seen a motorhome which is a 1997 fiat 1.9td rollerteam 6 berth. It is the ideal layout for me but I worried with it being a 1.9 engine to pull it uphill once all my things kids are inside. We are going to be using it in the south of france in the foothills of pyrenees/ Has anyone had any experience with this model and do you think its up to the job
thanks for your help kathy

I have a Euramobil with a Fiat 1.9td, only just came back from Germany where I bought it and I was shocked at how slow it was even on small inclines on the motorway, I got caught a couple of times overtaking trucks. I am happy enough with it on the flat but I will not be overtaking unless I am show there is no sign of a hill.

My first motorhome was a 1.9jtd and would i advice one? To be honest noand we did not have many in it. Go for at least a 2.3 but 2.8 is best.

Our Last Van was an AS Pollensa on a 1.9TD and we decided that for his size of vehicle it was definately underpowered.
Having said this we have toured the Alps twice and been up and down the various passes. Every hairpin is 1st gear and you need plenty of patience but managed it. Max speed we ever got was 85 on the Autoroute down hill with a following wind. Reasonable cruising speed 60>65 mph with rapid deceleration at the slightest incline and plenty of gearbox work.

Best of luck with your decision

Steve

Hi Kathy
I have the CI Riviera 1.9 Tdi.
I did my homework prior to buying, and following information from others with regards the 1.9tdi engine, went ahead and bought it, with the intention of having an engine tune up (£450) at TB Turbo of Lancaster, as I bought the MH from the south coast, the drive home via Aberdeen soon put the miles on the clock, 2700 miles later had the MH at TB Turbo for the rolling road tune up, the first 2700 miles were hard work on hills, motorway, overtaking, or with any load on board the MH, consumption was around 24mpg.

On the day of tune up was apprehensive about the cost of £450 just for a tune up, but when driving out of TB Turbo, thought I was driving a different vehicle, after the rolling road tune up was informed the power output was 123 bhp, and yes you can feel the power, from here went on holiday to France, over the alps, Med coast, in total 8000 miles with fuel consumption of around 25mpg, now have around 33000 miles on the clock,

Holiday load is 3100 kg

With the standard engine, you will find it hard work to drive, and get frustrated with the lack of power, I did, with the engine after a tune up I am totaly happy with the MH and have no intention of changing it as it's the layout I was looking for,

Good luck with your MH search,
