As a newish-newbie, if the MH is on hook-up on a site and I need to run 3 appliances, say a T.V. satellite and oven, is it O.K. to use a double adaptor ( as you would use at home) in the M.H. 3 pin socket outlets if there aren't enough sockets for each appliance? Or would this be unsafe
Many thanks for any assistance
No more unsafe than in your house provided that the circuit is ok for the power required. For example in my van the 13A sockets are protected by 6A circuit breakers so 6A is the maximum I can draw from each and I certainly couldn't power all that you suggest. It also depends on the rating of the hook up which may be as low as 6A on some sites.

Plusnet, Safari 5, G5 PowerPC iMac running OSX 10.5.8, Salisbury UK : Get behind early - it gives you more time to catch up.
I use a double adapter .. one at each end of the van. In fact, they are actually 4 socket surge protectors that I use - not just double ones! There is a serious lack of plugs in my van - in fact I think I only have 2.
I don't use 8 appliances at once of course but most of them stay plugged in but switched off at the socket and I have been know to use the Kettle, TV, Satellite, radiator and toaster all at once and I am still here.
In practice you will be limited by the max site amperage i.e. 6, 10, or 16 amps. If the total loading of your appliances exceeds this, the trip on the hook-up post cuts out, sometimes you can't reset this yourself causing a little embarrassment
Three pin adapters are usually fused at 13 amps so unless your oven is a fullsize domestic model that shouldn't be a problem, however check the rating plate on the rear ( TV's draw about 3 or 4 amps )

So long as they are mechanically safe there is no more of a problem with splitters in a motorhome. BUT There should be no metal exposed parts, (look at the sockets in your motorhome they have plastic plugs covering the fixing screws.
I prefer a socket strip which can be mechanically better.
As for load. you should be OK if the Oven is not too big. You are likely to have a total of 16A available on a UK hook up (can be much less abroad) That is about 4000W
Water heater is likely to be 800W and charger perhaps another 100W so 3000W available at the sockets for fires plugs etc. Just look at the plates on the equipment and add up the powers in "W" or sometimes "VA" the Oven could be anything the TV and sat about 200 togeter. So your oven needs to be less than 2500W.
If the site has a smaller available current you start off with a smaller figure and so the Oven needs to be smaller.
