My imported S820 was due it's first MOT and having read on here the difficulty involved in switching the headlamps around, I thought I'd try the black tape method.

However I had to mask off so much of the light that it looked like a throwback to the days of the blackouts.

2 of the 3 screws at the back of the light were just about accessible but I could not attempt to try to loosen the third without a very real chance of rounding it off.

I thought there must be a better way, and indeed on the 820 there is. The headlamp surround can be removed by undoing just 2 nuts, you can there remove the headlamp assembly by removing about 12 self tapping screws.
The whole unit the just pulls out and you can easily loosen the 2 screws in the slotted area, remove the odd one, rotate the headlamp by about 15 degrees then just replace the screw, tighten the other 2, and reassemble the unit.

Total time to do both sides, 1 hour at a pretty leisurely pace.

I've included some pictures which may help

Absolutely,

Odd isn't it rotating them about 15 degrees, makes this much difference.

MOT carried out today no problems.

Thanks Andrew. Very usefull. I had the headlamps adjusted by the garage when I imported my B544L into UK but was unsure how to change them back for going abroad. Photos are a great help.
Cheers.

Andrew,

You are a jammy so and so. Laughing

No such luck with the earlier twin lamp configuration. Sad

I have to assume that Hymer were aware of the access problems on earlier models, and redesigned accordingly.....or is that just logical thinking. Rolling Eyes

Jock.

Hi Jock, I don't think so.

If they really wanted to make it easier for us Brits there are far better ways of going about it.

I think it's Hella that have done the thinking, I think as you say I'm just lucky that this particular vehicle has been produced this way.

Would be interesting to see how they have done it in the later vehicles.
