hi, any member got any info on the new auotrail 840d 6 wheeler, have seen the new swift and was not very impressed by the build quality i think there will be a few problems there,i think that the best advise comes from the owner members who say it as it is and have no contact with the manufacturers, unlike the testers in the magazines that vote for mororhomes saying that this is the best and thats the best, over the years they have reccomended more lemons than anything else [ my opinion ] what do you think, anyway back to the auotrail my freind says he spoke to 2 owners of new 6wheeler auotrail at peterborough and said they were less than happy with their new vans, what do you think , thanks [ rant over ]

Hi

You are right to try to speak to an owner. However, whilst my own Swift has been described by many as a "Friday afternoon van" and "a lemon" there are other people who love their Swift.

It only I had considered the 840 as a replacement for my van, but could not find one anywhere to view.

My own view of magazines is that they give a fair view. There was a magazine last year - Jan or Feb and they featured a Kontiki on tour to France - it came back home on a breakdown lorry.

Hello

Only other possibility to see one in the flesh would be at the factory. Worth a call to Autotrail I guess. Factory is at Grimsby.

Hi, we ordered a new 840d from the NEC in feb 07.
we looked closley at all the 6 wheelers and chose the autotrail because of it was, in our opinion, much better finished than the swift or kontiki. After the show, we wanted to have another lok at the 840, but struggled to find one. We contacted Autotrail and they told us that only 1 prototype had been built. They gave us a list of where this van was going to be over the next couple of weeks. Evidently it was moved around dealer to dealer. We managed to catch up with it at Brownhills and spent a good while going over it. Luckily we still agree it is the van for us. We have been told expected delivery date will be end of july, 5 months from order,....can't wait. i have loads of photos, inside and out, if you need them.
Hope this helps
Ian

If you ring around the local Autotrail dealers they may just have one on their premises. It may be sold and awaiting collection, but they just may let you have a brief look around it if you explain the problem. Brownhills have one for hire IIRC.
We looked and thought it was very nice except for the TV location (Flat panel fastened to the wall right in the entrance doorway. Shower a bit on the small side and no gas fire, only warm air. We have since bought a Chieftan.
