Dealer still cannot give firm date for new motorhome just says June? It is in the process of being built and dealer reckons that nothing short of a fire at the factory will delay it. G is quite calm about it but I am getting a bit anxious. Never had experience with this situation our Champ was new but fully assembled when we got it. Is it fairly common to give just a month in which to expect delivery? Any advice appreciated.
Yes indeed; it wasn't dealer bulls..t. Several vans were lost on the Sevel production line. The good news is the delay to me was only a month.
If you are talking about June 2007 (my vehicle was on an 11 month delivery, too!) then I would have thought the dealer ought to know to a week or fortnight maximum when it should be with him.
There is no easy answer; playing hardball doesn't help even at the time of order, and certainly not now if you didn't then. Just down to the dealer's reputation I'm afraid.
Only ordered it in March this year, only reason I ask is my sister is coming over from New Zealand with her OH and two kiddies we have promised to take them for a night or two in motorhome. Grace my neice is desperate to sleep in overcab bed. They arrive 30th June. We did state at the time that we needed it for 30th June but didn't push for exact date as they seemed sure it would arrive mid June on schedule. Oh well will wait and see

n our case I know it's not the dealers fault but Hobbys. They have completely sc***ed up the production of their new models. There are acres and acres of almost finished motorhomes sitting at the factory waiting on things like door locks of light units etc. They have practically ceased communicating with the dealer who is tearing his hair out.
After a series of extremely strong worded e mails am finally getting some info out of them but still have no idea when our van will be finished. Last week we were told (by Hobby) that the van was finished on the production line but as we had ordered "a lot of crowds" of accessories it would still take some time and we had to be patient.This week we've been told that our van is on the "turning loop" and that we have to have patience. What's a turning loop?

That's a very unGerman thing to happen. But at least it is on the turning loop which must be a great source of comfort and goes someway to compensating for your extended delivery date.
I suppose this is one of the advantages of buying a used van, at least it's physically there.
I wonder if anyone has successfully used a "Time of the Essence" clause to the order.
It seems to me that at the buying stage just when you are about to sign on the dotted line, you could say to the dealer "How confident are you on the May delivery?", to which most salesman would reply that they were very confident. I would then say "Well let's add a month for contingencies and add a Time of the Essence" clause.
You are then in a position to cancel, seek compensation, or hire a van if yours turns up late.
I am in exactly the same position as carolgavin. We were told that our van is a "may build" which should mean the dealer gets it end may / early june, so june delivery to us. I rang the dealer a couple of weeks ago and he said he had heard nothing different but would confirm, I am waiting for his call so will start to chase again soon.
Urgency for us is that we are going away early July so would like the new van for then. However if it turns out to be too late for then I will use the current van for that trip and refuse delivery until september for the new reg. I told the dealer at the time of order I wanted the van in June or if not I would not want it until september.
So I am not really worried, but would prefer delivery as scheduled!
"un-German" or not, currently it seems that Hobby is not the only manufacturer having problems with delayed deliveries: Yesterday I had been at my Dutch Euramobil dealer for annual maintenance and moisture check. And he has told me that he still has not yet received one single specimen of the new "Terrestra" series.
Seems that the amost precisely synchronized model change by all major chassis makers has hit the motorhome manufacturers quite hard.
