I know the Caravan Club policy about electricity charges has been done to death before but I think i've experienced a situation where you have to pay extra 'not' to have electric....
Stayed on the Caravan Club Site at Round Plantation recently (its in the database ). Its a very nice site.
They have deemed this site a 'simply six' site which means that every pitch is Ģ6 a night regardles of season and whether hook up is available or not.
This site has 95 pitches and about 30 of them are economy pitches, ie no leccy.
Needless to say, when we got there, all the pitches with electric were taken and only a few of the economy pitches were occupied. So we paid the same price as those with electricity.
Now Ģ6 is a very good price and I don't have a problem with that but surely this is another unfair pricing policy?
I normally get annoyed because they charge for electricity when we don't really want it. Now i'm annoyed because they are effectively charging me for electricity and I can't have it!
hi isnt there some sites that do choice!! pay per elecy by meter
on the hook up some in france i think a bit like the shilling in the meter when i little

Nice idea Jim but I'm sure the Greenjackets would find a sub clause forbidding this
I sure they would
But, with a bit of night-time 'jiggery poky' ..
Seriously .. the French have the right idea, share and share alike .. on one particular aire I had two piggy backing, I ended up plugged into a continental black reel and I'm sure no one gave a second thought to health and safety or reverse polarity
It's sharing one electrical outlet to more than one motorhome. A bit like one of those white plastic multi-outlet adapters you get for normal mains.
Do I remember something a while ago, where the EU said campsites couldn't charge for electricity, because they were effectively reselling electricity without approval (or something like that)? What happened about that?
The law was introduced to stop robber landlords, ripping tenants of by reselling them electicity.
It means that electricity has to be re sold at cost. It was never really intended to affect campsites but it does.
In effect, I have 50 hook up's with 50 pitches so every pitch includes electricity to keep me legal. If I had 50 hook ups and 75 pitches I would have to charge the same across the board, because to charge more for a pitch with a hook up would effective "set" the cost of the electricity at the difference.
As this cost would be more that the cost of the electricty used (in the summer) we would be selling the electricity at a profit which is illegal
Funny no one minds in the winter when we loose money on electricity though
Another example of the law being interpreted to be counter productive, for us, the citizens of Europe!

Thanks Eddie.
That explains the CC policy of 'one price for all' .. the law is an ass at times.
