Greetings,

Been thinking of buying a gas barbecue, obviously a portable type and have seen some alloy ones with a cast iron grid that are about £20, or the steel ones at about £12 which are definitely lighter, these both use lava rock, might also need a stand to place the BBQ on.

What do people make of these type of barbecue/ I have a brand new stainless steel compact one but it uses charcoal and I think a gas one would be cleaner.

Also how much does it cost to fill one of these small Calor propane bottles, I need to get one if I buy a gas barbeque, got a 6kg and 13 kg on board but thought that a small separate bottle wold be better as it would also serve as a reserve if my main tanks go down.

Hi Peter,

Our compact gas bbq cost us a few pence under £20. It doesn't have a stand but we usually put it onto a table. We have a connection point on the side of the van, and also have a lead with a nice new regulator Rolling Eyes which we put onto a gas bottle when away from the van. It uses lava rock and gives a lovely smoky bbq tast to food. It is lovely and light and the lid means that you can cook things nice and slowly.
We do also have a cadac which Glenn hates with a passion. It lives at the back of the garage somewhere now Shocked

I'm also looking to get a Gas BBQ @ present we just use the disposable trays. I keep looking at the Cadac as they seem the business for camping, however they do seem to be a bit pricey.

Greetings,

Thanks for your reply folks, I think I will make do with the rest of the throw away BBQ's before buying a replacement, I have got about 4 left, so rather than throw them away now I shall use them first then throw them away! Smile

Then by the Lincoln show I should be in a position to peruse those on offer and maybe purchase a gas one.

Then I can get my brand new stainless portable one put on eBay.

But in the meantime I need to buy a small table/stand to put the barbecue on, saw some useful aluminium ones in the Range in Hull, but they had plastic inserts and they will not take the heat. I had a camp kitchen years ago, maybe I can find one similar or smaller at the right price.

The best BBQ I have is a pot bellied cast iron one at home, it is a great tool for cooking but no good for traveling.
