All of the Greater london area is going to be a low emission zone from feb 2008, a bit like the congestion zone , but a lot larger and a lot more expensive £100 / £ 200 per day cost , and wait for it a penalty of £ 1000 if you dont pay within 24hrs. Gradually being widened in scope re size and age of vehicle , but specifically mentions motorhomes from oct 2010.
I think London is the LAST place I want to take a motorhome...
but wait a minute, what will the CC do.. they have two sites within London.. or is this a all part of an anti motorhome policy
I was born & bred in London and by the age of 20 couldn't wait to leave the dirty stinking filthy place. . . but there again some of my best friends still live in London whereas I live not 10 minutes from the clean Welsh hills, I wonder who got the better deal ? - Hmm, hard question [not]

I just missed the consultation period which ended earlier this year. I contacted the Caravan Club who were totally dismissive!
As already mentioned, a number of their own members will be prevented from using their camp sites, never mind visiting tourist sites.
Not to mention problems with foreign visitors.
I appreciate the object of the scheme to reduce emissions on a daily basis, but to virtually exclude very occasional use for events and tourism seems draconian.
seems a bit draconian! I checked on my van, (registered Oct 99) and it is ok until 2010, but after that would be liable to the charge (better to call it a fine) . I don't see how they're going to enforce it with so many roads going into greater London. Surely it would not be financially viable to set up cameras on all roads?
A laudable scheme to reduce emissions, but £100 / £200 a DAY?

As far as I know, the only motorhoming Oxford United supporter in Bognor.
Is the cost/mechanics of putting in place low-emission technology esp. older vehicles prohibitive/impossible? - Apparently I am OK 'til 2010. So won't restore the van so scrupulously if it's got to go by then. - As I bet this spreads! - H
