Saw a sad sight today at a nearby site, some poor bugger's awning being blown right over the van with a freak gust of wind, wrecking the awning and doing some hefty panel damage to a fairly new CI van.

Got me thinking, if this happens is the damage covered by your insurance?, and if so if it was not lashed down would this invalidate it.
Makes you think twice about just sticking it out for a bit of shade for tea without doing all the strapping etc which I am sure we have all done at some point.

Glad to hear it. We currently have an awning room out, lashed down with about 15 stretchy peg things and 5 guys ropes. Hung from the roof bar are 15 cans of diet caffeine free coke, 2 tins of Sweetcorn, 3 tins of bean, 3 tins of plum tomatos and a tin of pineapple!

Odd I know but I needed to stop the wind sweeping the roof bar up and putting all the weight in a carrier bag and hanging it from the centre beam seems to have done the trick. Stopped creaking so much anyway. The other option was to go out in gale force winds and rain and pull the thing down and pack it in a wee bag ... absolutely no chance of that. Laughing

May go out and add a couple of tins of tuna and some pasta sauce shortly, just to ensure it overnights without issue! Embarassed

The NFU paid out on mine when it went up in the air. Brand new F45 zip awning no problems. I can imagine a lesser & cheaper insurer trying to wriggle out of paying because theyre good at that but then thats what you pay for. I had mine strapped down with a storm strap but no sides on. Luckily damage was confined to just the awning framework itself which I had to bin before travelling home, luckily they didnt even want to see the evidence.
