Can't help I fear, other than by giving your message another run round the front page. Older Hymers tend to have a pretty strong reputation, as with anything condition will be everything - so long as the layout is absolutely the right one for you).

Hi Bear1
There are a number of Hymer owners on MHF and several 644's last time I looked.
The older (classic) Hymers were in my opinion, about the best made and have certainly stood the test of time. They are well built, if not a little unimaginative Laughing and some definitely suffered from drab interior fabrics but........ These things are easily sorted if they are not to your personal taste so not much to worry about there. Generally as I said the build quality is very good and the mechanicals are strong and fairly straightforward.
I think the 644 is built on the Fiat 2.5 turbo diesel chassis which again has stood the test. We had a S660, which was built on the Mercedes 410 chassis and that one is virtually indestructible.
There seems to be a reasonable selection of the classic Hymers for sale and I would certainly agree that the layout is the most important thing to try to get right, and as the 644 is virtually the same layout as our old S660 I think it is basically a good layout for a couple or small family.
Good luck and welcome to MHF Laughing Laughing Laughing

Keith

We have a Hymer B654 (1992) and are very happy with it.
