How many of you buy your new tax disc in advance before your old one expires then put it in the windscreen straight away? I know I do.

Someone mentioned to me today that this is illegal and you must not display it until the first day of the month it comes into force.
See 'When and where to display the disc' in the following link.....

Correct, the offence will be failing to display a current tax disc

Tax disc only shows expiry date so who is to say it is not current?
Date of start is not shown on disc and date the Post office issued it is often a smudged mess.

It says that you must display it on the left hand side of the windscreen, but does not say if that is with you sitting in the car or standing outside of it.

I know we all know where it has to go, but another example of sloppy wording, and it seems to me that if they are going to publish this information they should try to do it unambiguously

Regarding which side of the windscreen the tax disc should be displayed, 'on the right', but is this inside the vehicle or outside looking at it? Mine being a left hand drive R/V is displayed on the left hand side looking out of the vehicle as that was where it was originally placed by the dealer.

Having the road tax exemption as a disabled person, my tax disc is always inspected when I use the Dartford crossing. I know I shouldn't but I love watching the slighty puzzled faces of the men and women in the pay toll booths when they get out of their little boxes to inspect it!

I have never been challenged that it is on the wrong side, if I were to be, I would claim that I am left handed which I am!

Where do other LH vehicle owners display theirs and should the position be changed when driving on the continent? (I AM referring to tax discs here!)
