This summer we are travelling to Croatia via Slovenia.

We intend using the A10 from Salzburg to drive through Austria. We do not intend stopping in Austria.

Is is necessary to purchase a vignette and pay toll charges and tunnel charges for the A10.

Or do you just pay toll and tunnel charges?

Thank you for your help.

You do need a vignette as well as the tolls on tunnels etc, as the A10 is a motorway. You can buy one at the border, or at petrol stations etc.

Note if you are over 3500kg you need a Go box instead of a vignette. This charges by the kilometer.

We did a similar trip with a caravan 3 years ago. Croatia is OK, but we preferred slovenia. Don't miss Bled and also lake Bohinje (I think thats how you spell it).

We bought a 10 day vignette for about E7.90. I think that was the shortest period possible.

Hmm;

Not so sure whether you'll need a vignette for the A10.

According to the following link you have to pay a separate toll for it along with tolls for the 2 tunnels you pass through, the Katschberg and the Radstadter tunnels unless i've read it wrong or its an out of date link ?? .....

Support the Austrian road system; buy a vignette ! !

By the look of it all the lorry traffic in Europe passes through Austria and they need every cent they can get to keep their roads going. Since Eastern Europe went into the transport business the Austrians have had to put up with a horrific increase in traffic.

We expected to be made to buy one at the border - we used the A10 Udine via Villach from Italy-and there were dire warnings about what happens if you don't have a vignette when you are stopped. They can be bought however at a variety of places including the middle of the country where you'd have had to get there illegally to be able to buy one. We got ours at the border village, a few km in from the border

We certainly paid extra for the Tauern and Katchberg tunnels ( one toll for both) but it was not a breath-holdingly large amount.

We also used the A1 Salzburg to Vienna autoroute but remember the tunnel on that as free. Very busy road.

Yes Peejay, I found that site as well; it was this which prompted to post and ask the question.

I am aware that you need a vignette to use the Austrian Autoroutes, but that site suggested that some (the busiest) have their own seperate tolls.

I remain confused.

Coral...I've just been looking at mileages etc for our proposed trip to Croatia in the summer and been using ViaMichelin site as usual:

www.viamichelin.com

I hadn't noticed before but it gives the tolls for all the tunnels en route as well as saying that you must purchase a vignette - it says a 10 day one so this must be the minimum available.

You could I think use it to answer your question as it is kept up to date on such matters.
