Hi

t's an omen. The end of the world is nigh! Don't panic Dave, don't panic, its really just a shadow of Chris's neighbour staggering and falling backwards after a night at the pub and downing 20 pints Laughing Laughing

The wood looks like beech and the pattern is known as spalting, this occurrs when the wood is attacked by a fungal infection, the fungus builds a perimeter (the black line) then eats away at the area inside it. This type of timber is much valued by woodturners for ornamental turning.
This fungus obviously has a mickey mouse fetish Very Happy

It's got a long way to go before it's ready to use as a jewellery box lid though Rob. Smile

I've got about eight cubes cluttering the place up - but it's nearly ready!! Guess what next year's Crimbo presents are going to be? Very Happy Very Happy Rolling Eyes

Cheers
