I am looking for advice on austra and looking to travel around the Hohe Tauern National Park area any advice for motorhome 7mts on the toll road
and costs please.

I was looking for advice on the toll road 107 that runs along the grossglockner is it suited to our 7mt camper and if so wondered if there was a toll on it
any good sites in the area would be helpful

We are also going to Austria this year.
It would appear that it is not terribly popular for travellers on this forum as there are not many relevant posts.
We have not been before so our itinery is very much suck it and see:
- Approx 1 week near Werfen - to visit ice caves and get in some good walking.
- Travelling to Vienna primarily to see a performance at the Spanish Riding School but also to spend a day seeing Vienna. We have booked 3 days at a fairly small site a little way out of Vienna which provides a shuttle bus service for 9euros. We had planned to stay at Vienna West site, which was described by a fellow member as being OK, but due to Euro 2008 the cost has rocketed and will no doubt be full of football fans either celebrating or commiserating over the home match.
- Have booked a site next to the moors above Salzburg to have 3 days walking before we make the thrash home through Germany to Dunkirk for the ferry!
Eddie has spent many nights on the computer planning and has got all the routes logged in the sat nav!
What have you planned so far, when do you intend to visit?
We did the Grossglockner in a 6.5 mtrs motorhome. No problem and great fun. I used to be a guide in Austria and did the Glockner with the groups in a full size coach.
Just take it slow in the hairpins.
Watch the brakes on the way down and stop halfway for an hour or so to give them time to cool down.

We were in Vienna last Easter ( see blog via button below) and went to a free practise session at the Spanish Riding School. There are two levels and, because it was full, we had to go up to the second level. This was not totally satisfactory. It gave us a flavour of the whole but we found we were too high to really appreciate the riding and, because the balcony wall was quite high, we either had to stand ( which gave me vertigo) or sit and not really see very clearly.
I don't know if you can pre-book but try and get there early and make sure you get onto the first floor balconies.
There is a Vienna Pass which gives you free transport ( U- bahn, buses and trams) as well as reduced access to many places. We thoroughly recommend a round trip on the Ring-Kai- Ring tram to see all the magnificent public buildings around the Ringstrasse.
It's a lovely city and I envy you your trip. If you want to extend your journey a bit more then go down to Slovenia to Lipice which is the stud for the Lippizaner horses.

PS We didn't manage to get our act together when there but, if we go again, will go on one of the day boat trips along the Danube to Bratislava or Budapest. Plenty available - not cheap however. There's probably a website about them somewhere !
