Just got back from what must rank as the hardest wedding I ever covered.
It started yesterday when I suddenly went down with a dreadful cold. Dosed up with night/day nurse when I woke up this morning the last thing I wanted to do was get up, let alone shoot a wedding.
I hauled myself off though and today we have had snow, hale, wind, rain and really bright sunshine.
All the photographs had to be taken in the church and since I do not use flash at weddings I was pushing the camera to the limit. In fact I had to give up on the auto functions of the camera and resort to manual. If it means anything to you I was shooting wide open at a 30th of a sec most of the time at 1600asa, focusing was critical.
To top everything the reception was at a place called shepherd's cottage. I have never been to such a remote place, you had to cross fields for 2 miles to get there!
I have just gone through the 800 images I took and I am now relieved that the day was succesful. Now back to the cold
hi stew sorry to here you have a cold next time we meet will but a wee bit more in your glass nice meeting you shona jessica at newark nice to have achat john jackie
with a job like yours you cant just ring in sick and stay in bed, especially for a wedding, so well done on mustering through, hope you feel better soon, a good cheap way to treat a cold is lemonade boiled till the fizz has gone and a couple of paracetamol, certainly makes me feel better
Hi Stew... I remember some years ago I was asked by a friend if I could take his wedding photos for him as he didn't want spend a lot of money.. he said I know you take great photos.. I agreed and when the day came I took a Canon F1 35mm Film camera with me and loaded a 36exp roll film and carried on taking photos until the exposure counter showed 52 I then became very worried... and my thoughts were right... the film hadn't been winding on.. and from that day onwards I always took the photos twice with my Mamiya on a tripod and a 35mm round my neck lol.
Thanks everyone. I have just posted a few pics from the wedding on my blog.
Despite the title of this thread the wedding was one of the nicest I have ever been on which made the day easier.
The couple Simon and Carrie came to me via recommendation from a wedding I did at the same church, a baptist church three years ago. The couple whose wedding I did then were also there as were a lot of the same guests and they treated me as a family member, but not in a brain washing religious type way.
After the wedding service they all went into church day room for tea and cakes, something I have never seen before and a really nice touch.
The Shepherd's cottage location was stunning. As I left I just had to take this scene shot. I would love to spend a week there taking photographs as the location was a photographer's dream.
Feeling a lot better today, night and day nurse are winning the battle for me
