The D3 is def the way to go. It out performs the D2x in every way However it is full frame so your lenses will be what they say they are as opposed to the D2 series which will have 1.5 magnification pros and cons!!

In my view the D300 easily outshines the D2X and the D3 just pips the D300 unless you need 8 frames per second etc.
Got all three now and the D2X is so old tech.

Hi

I would not disagree with any of the comments above. What attracts me to the DX2 is the price they are going for - £500 ish on ebay. I sold my DX1 as a favour to a friend last year and that camera still earns him £500 every week in the hands of one of his assistants shooting baby photos
