This last three day weekend we made a quick trip from Belluno, Italy where we live to Trieste, one night and then one night at a beach in Croatia - Rovinj. Later this month some friends are staying in a hotel for two weeks in Ugljan, Croatia. We plan on camping nearby for part of the time. Anyone familiar with Ugljan, camp sites, sandy beaches?
Rovinj is beautiful, but for the kids the beach is not the best, all rocks.
Since these two countries are relatively close to us we are looking for ideas from anyone familiar with them. Sandy beaches, wildcamping and camp areas. I've tried some links posted here in the past but they seem to be gone now. We are aware of most of the rules, no wildcamping etc. And did notice campers who seemed to be parked overnight where they have a sign that says 12 hour limit on camper parking in Rovinj, I also noticed signs saying no camper parking and the big town parking lot would not allow anything other than car parking.
We picked the worst time to come home, last day of Italian holiday, at 4pm, took 4 hours to go 90 k. I was glad to be in a camper, did some cleanup and organizing, made some dinner, got the kids ready for bed.

We stopped at Porec on the Istrian peninsula in September last year intending to overnight . We could hardly get out of the van for the clouds of biting flies. We were both quite badly bitten in minutes and went on back up to Slovenia.
I've not seen flies in quite such concentrations !
We very much enjoyed a stay at Camping Skoja at Pula earlier that trip. We went right up to the end of the peninsula so we were on the edge of the sea and got magnificent sunsets and sightings of dolphins etc. No mosquitos either.
I've written an account of our trip to Slovenia and Croatia in the blog section ( press button below)

Hi,
I'm a bit late in replying as I missed your post.
A very good site with in depth info on Croatia can be found HERE
Thanks, Don, that is a great site, very professional. We ended up spending 13 days in Croatia. 10 were spent on the island of Ugljan across from Zadar.
