I've been using a Microsoft program for picture editing as I couldn't get away with PSE. However, I've downloaded a free 30 day trial of PSE 6 and it seems pretty good, so I'd like to buy a book to learn how to use it. Looked locally but can't find any, Amazon have lots but I don't know which to go for. Can anyone recommend a good one?
Books seem to fall into two main categories - those which give a series of "lessons", and others which are set out more like reference books.
I favour the latter as I have no wish to learn a series of skills that I will never use, but then be unable quickly to find help on something specific that I need to do NOW.
I would suggest a visit to Waterstones or similar for a browse. You will quickly get an idea of how they are set out and whether the format appeals to you.
You could also have a look at ::this sort of website:: but you'll need some mental stamina whatever you choose, as it's a very complex program. Don't be fooled by the word "Elements".
Mrs Zeb studied it at college for two years (part time) and still doesn't know it all by any means. Hence my leaning toward a "reference" format so you can easily look up selected skills as and when you need them.
Thanks: the website is brilliant, just the sort of thing I am looking for. I tried bookshops but they mainly had books on earlier versions. Amazon has a few I like the look of but it is hard to choose without seeing them. That website seems to have most of what I was stuck with so that could be the solution.

Not sure where you are located but in Letchworth, Herts where I am, we've set up a group at our local school which is dedicated to Photoshop Elements. I provide formal tutorials from time to time but most of the sessions are self-help where members just get together and share experiences.
If you're anywhere close by send me a PM and I'll give you more details. There's a little info on my website although it needs updating to take into account 2009...
I find the "Teach yourself Visually" books very good, much easier at my age to understand, I have a few titles myself and would choose the same book again if I needed a book for a new interest.
