hello,
living in the hard water area of Hampshire we remove the 8 screws holding the sliding lid in place then pour kettle descaler into the holding tank and leave to do its magic hard limescale build ups can be chisseled off with carefull use of a old kitchen knife-well thats what i tell the missis Embarassed

when replacing the lid we spray the rubber with silicone spray to prevent the rubber drying out.

We usually wipe it off with a cloth soaked in vinegar. If it's really bad then the trap cover will need removing and soaking in vinegar or descaler.

Make sure you then wash it all off with plenty of water afterwards ( and start the whole scaling up process again...!)

Thetford sell a scale remover, works very well. I am very wary of using other products, replacement seals are expensive and are a lot of trouble to replace.
