Not only the other day I was singing the praises of Mercedes Sprinters Reliability.
Went to start the engine today and "start error" came up in the dash LED.
We had this problem before, a certain someone is always dropping her copy of the keys and had lost the immobiliser chip out of the key.
Chip is still intact this time!
Tried spare set and same fault "start error"
I have contacted my Nephew who works for Mercedes, he spoke to the van mechanic who said it could be anything from keys, spikes, wsp, ECU, burnt out wire.
He suggested I contact my insurers (safeguard) and call breakdown. However, it is Friday and I don't fancy having it stuck on their forecourt all weekend.
So it is stuck on the drive for now, unless someone can help me out?
Need to check what I am covered for on SafeGaurd too!
If Peter's idea doesn't work and you have two keys. If it is the same as mine, try recoding one of them. If I remember correctly there is a procedure for doing this in the handbook but of course you have to know the four digit code to put into it which the dealer should have given you.

I hope its not a 6 cylinder with chinese electrics because if it is the key will have to go back to germany and be re set to match the ECU. Merc should have sorted this but have not and I know someone (Vic Eastwood for all you who rememver scrambling on grandstand Sat afternoons) who has had this problem 3 times now and has had enough of it so the MH is on its way. Merc sort it for free but have not paid for the hotel accomodation for the 10 days it has taken for the key to come back. Not what I would expect from Mercedes
I have just dug out my scratch card with my PIN number on it and on the back is the disarming procedure in the event the key won't work. Assuming yours is the same, it is a 5 digit code not a four. So I should have said try the manual disarming procedure rather than recoding the key. Sorry but I was getting confused with another system on my van.

Still looking like will have to call SafeGuard on Monday.
Another problem is that if they need to tow it away, one of our lovely neighbours has made it rather difficult for our access for the MH alone. Not sure how they will get a tow truck to remove it!.
Trek,
Our Mercedes key does not have the remote central locking, it is just a normal one like shown in the image. Many thanks for your kind efforts.
