just got back from a week down london ( stayed at the chertsey site , very nice ) so the batteries should be well charged , we left the van outside our home for the night whilst we unloaded etc , when i went to it this morning the leisure battery warning light was flashing telling me the battery was flat ,i plugged into the mains electric to charge battery and noticed that the charging gauge hardly moved from the vertical position ,i unplugged and tried the battery condition gauge it showed the battery to be in the red , i cannot see that i left anything switched on through the night which would flatten the battery , i tried running the engine and still the charge gauge stayed almost in the vertical position ( hymer b584 2000 w reg , forgot to mention ) i rang oaktree motorhomes where we got the van from for a bit of help and they seem to think its the battery , can a battery pack up that quick and do i need to replace it with a gell battery like whats on it , any ideas much appreciated .....
Maybe the battery was already on its last legs. I presume other than the fact that your warning light wasn't on before the holiday you do not have a clear idea whether the battery was in servicable condition beforehand.
Whilst you were on hook-up at Chertsey it probably would have disguised the fact that the battery was about dead. So it could be that you need a new one.
Is the battery in an outside locker or inside the van? If it's inside and you wanted to use a lead acid battery, you would need to have some way of passing the vent tube to the outside of the vehicle. There may also be a switch on your charger unit for gel / lead-acid.
