Good morning all. I have a Garmin Nuvi 660 that won't speak to me!!
Everything else works OK. I think it must be the speaker thats broken. I got cross in France a couple of times but that was 6 weeks ago. You'd think she woould be over it by now. Any help is appreciated......Hobey

Mine gets cross with me! Definitely stroppy tone when she says "recalculating".

Have you tried re-setting to original factory settings?

Not necessarily a broken speaker. There have been quite a number a reported cases of Nuvis in general, and 600 and 660's in particular, losing sound. Often this is because the sound files have been corrupted. If you have a back up of the system, you can reinstall them. I'd suggest calling Garmin in the UK. They are generally very helpful.

Can you get sound through the ear piece? If so, it might be the speaker, or its connection. If you can't, it may be corrupt files

You havent muted it by accident have you.

If not try turning on whilst holding the top RH corner of the screen. This will then perform a soft reset.

Hi all, I took back my 660 to the shop where I bought it and they told me to download a bunch of updates from Garmin.com. I did this but she still wouldn't speak to me!
I went back again to the shop and the salesman rang Garmin in the U.K and after a 2 minute conversation I was told I was getting a brand new Garmin 860 model in exchange with a full 12 month warranty!!! The salesman was flabbergasted and was of the opinion that the Garmin 660 had a fault and are replacing them rather than publicising it. Anyway I'm happy with my result............Hobey

How interesting!

I have a Garmin 660 which has been exchanged twice. It appears to be working perfectly now since the last exchange in October '07.

Must say exchanging was no problem so again full marks to Garmin for customer service.
