Hi

I am currently thinking about putting an Alden Platinum 80cm dish on my Kon-Tiki 679, along with a dream box so I fully utilise my sky subscription from home, I have two tv's, one in the lounge and one in the bedroom, my original plan was to site the dream box in my cupboard over the fridge this is also where my ariel booster is sited, remove the ariel feed and take an RF feed from the dream box into the booster so the signal was split to both tv's but on looking at the spec for the dream box it has no RF output, I spoke to one installer last week who said the modulators you can buy to convert the scart output to RF do not give you a good picture, has anyone out there tried this or got any other solutions they could suggest?.

Hi Matt

Two bits here for you....

My other Kontiki - the 669 - I had a satellite thing on the roof. The picture could be seen on both the front monitor and the rear TV. The front monitor was also the reverse cam.

I am however having satellite TV installed tomo on this van. I have a rear TV point and also a forward flip down monitor. This presently has a freeview receiver built in too.

I shall let you know what we do tomorrow.

Russell

A lot depends on distance and the quality you feel is acceptable.
The SCART gives you a composite (2 wire) video feed which can be taken quite a way. Sound would need separate wires. You could try a SCART converter rather than an RF converter and try the length of screened cable to your second TV.
As for quality, this will depend on the screen size as much as anything. The 640 x 480 that the composite will give you will look as good as any on a 10" monitor/TV but very poor on a 42".
Composite signal is usually output on RCA "Phono" plugs.
Hope this makes sense
Patrick

HI Guys

thanks for the input so far. i was hoping to use all the cable already layed through the van, and just send the sat input via the ariel booster box which comes out at each tv point, also this leaves the clutter of the dream box hidden away in the cupboard as well

I always thought that the justification for a motorhome or caravan is to get away from it all. But still I find that people want Corrie and Eastbenders and worst of all Twitterdale.
Just switch it off for a while, you will feel much better. Also remember, we would not have a current recession if we didn't have such free access to the media.

If the only cable through to the bedroom is ordinary coaxial then you are stuck with sending signals through at modulated UHF.

Do you have Sky movies and Sport?

If you don't you need to have a dreambox to utilize all your Sky channels. This could then enable you to get a different box so you can make different connections.

Just a though.
