If you are after a superb camera have a look at the Fuji S5. The first digital camera we ever had was a Fuji S1. This was about 8 years ago and cost us £2999 body only. We employed photographers at that time and bought 4 of them.
For portrait photography they produced far superior results to the Nikon D1x body which we paid £4500 for.
If you go to the Fuji site keep an eye on the refurbished models. Using the code FSDEC the price we have just paid is £360 including next delivery.
I think we have just ordered the last one in this batch as it came up with out of stock immediately after when I went back in to get the link for this post but I am told they are likely to add more.
Thats right Gary. Fuji have always used something called interpellation which they claim gives the same quality as a camera with double the count. It will be interesting to see.
Just read an email from Fuji saying its packed and been despatched. Nice service Fuji. I remember one of the S1s going wrong and when we called Fuji in Bedford they said we could take it in. We did and they made us a cup of coffee whilst they repaired it
Actually all digital cameras use a form of Interpolation because each pixel site only records a monochrome value....R, G or B. The pattern of the sensor is such that there are more Green Pixels than the other two colours. Interpollation or more often than not called de-mosiacing is used to get an image in which each pixel delivered to the computer is a combination of R,G,B. This is done by assessing the values from the neighbouring pixels on the sensor and combining these values into a composite R,G,B value
Where the S5 differs from most is that it uses two pixels per site. Still monochrome but each pixel in the pair is designed to respond to different areas of the tonal range. Supposedly to give a higher dynamic range. So although there are technically 12Mpixels the image only gets delivered with 6Mpixels.
I'd still rather get a new lens for my Canon than buy one of these
Well its arrived and I just snapped off a few of the girl and I was amazed. Really excellent colour and bitingly sharp. (Incidently this is Jessica in a bad mood, not seen too often ........thankfully lol)
