Have just purchased a new Panasonic 42 Plasma TV, a DVD recorder and a Home Cinemas Systems together with getting Sky + HD.

The back of my telly is more like Goonhilly satellite tracking station than a domestic residence.

Can anyone please elude as to how I should connect all of these up. The Panasonic information is 100% pants and totally confusing with HDMI , Scart and red and white audio leads going in every direction.

Apart from simply watching tv and recording programs I would like to make permanent records (DVD) of programs which I have recorded on my SKYHD + box.

Should not be rocket science but it seems to be getting that way.

Regards
JohnC

If it is a Viera outfit then use HDMI as much as possible.

These leads do not only 'upscale' video and audio but also control the connected units.

I have just gone through the same excercise and was totally non-plussed until I swapped my Deawoo VCR/DVD recorder for a Panasonic one. Connected throughout with HDMI now it controls itself, all I have to do is press a few buttons.

Spacerunner is right about HDMI, but as for recording, recording to DVD is horrendous and archiving recordings from Sky HD to DVD may not be possible.
Worst invention ever is the DVD recorder, even Philips national account manager could not drive one.
If you want more guidance, pm me with specific models and expectations.

For HD you need to use the HDMI cable.

It carries the video and audio signals so I would connect the sky HD box direct to your TV with one lead.

I'm not sure whether the skyHD box as a looped through hdmi - if it does connect the DVD recorder to the skybox with another hdmi lead. If it doesnt go straight from your dvd recorder to the other hdmi socket on your tv.

Not sure about recording from the skybox harddrive to dvd, whether sky enable it, but Im sure someone will tell you.
