As newcomers to motorhoming, (only spent one night away so far), we are still on a big learning curve. We have an Avtex 15" 10 in 1 TV/DVD unit, fitted by the dealer. The dealer also fitted a Status 315/5 aerial on the roof. We find that we cannot obtain a picture at all here at home (poor reception area), but we did manage to obtain a half-decent picture on our one night away, in Peterborough.
I have now seen advertised in a local rag a Maxview satelite dish, said to be in perfect condition. I have spoken to the advertiser, he assures me it is all complete, with satelite finder, etc., but he has lost the instructions. Is it possible to obtain these? Can I download these from somewhere?
Are there any other tips that might be useful?
I am intending to view the item tomorrow & if it looks OK I shall buy it. He is asking £30, this seems reasonable to me.
BTW, the dealer charged us for a hook-up lead. Should this have been supplied FOC?
On the Peterborough site, I noticed many other MH & vans had hook-up leads for TV also, is this common?
Any other info. appreciated.

Mod Note. Have moved this to Satellite TV forum. You should get more answers here.

This will also give your query a bump to the top so it will be noticed.

Hi I cannot answer your questions about the Maxview.

With regard to the CC sites and TV reception - a lot of CC sites have facility to connect to a TV signal boosting system especially in poor reception areas. You can buy a 25metre lead from the site or provide your own. There is no charge for connecting.
Regards Chris

Seems ok but has it got a receiver with it? and I would get him to show you how to work it. They are not too hard to find a satelight with but if you dont know what you are doing it could take some time.
Have a look here for all you need to know

Yes with a lot of imported vans you dont get a lead, I haggled and got one for free as part of the deal with out Hymer.

As already said you can buy these leads of most of the sites that have the ariel hook up, be careful though as many dont have digital capability presently.

Thanks to Zebedee for moving my post. I only discovered this forum after posting on the newcomers forum. I'm off to see the kit now, unfortunately the seller says he won't be able to demonstrate it as he's recovering from a major hip operation. So I'll just have to be wary.

Hi there emmbeedee

If the Maxview satellite system turns out to be ok why not give Maxview a ring - they are a good company and I'm sure would post you a copy of instructions.

Remember with your dish you need a receiver... you never mentioned one in your post, so thought it was worth mentioning. Receivers can be picked up quite cheaply tho. You cant just plug a dish directly into your tv.

Yes, sorry, should have said that receiver was included. This is a Zehnder. Seller had found books, one in English, seems OK, one in German, seems more detailed. Also came with a small compass, maps of coverage, remote control, map of skew? angle.
Haven't tried it yet, but only problems I can see so far are missing 12v lead for cigar lighter socket & missing bolt from tripod. Unit is not very old, book is dated 08/2006.
Will try it out soon & come back if any further problems found.
Thanks for helpful suggestions. I now have questions about a Sky set-up, will ask those separately.
