We currently have a Crankup which has been very good so far, but we are probably going to be changing our van early next year and removing a Crankup is not really an option for us due to leaving a hole through the roof.
I would imaging that removal of a dome would not cause much of a problem?
Now the real question, what are the pro and cons for a Camos 40cm Vs a KVH R4?
We also would like a twin LNB but this might be too costly for us.
Removing the Camos is still going to involve leaving a hole. You need one to get the cables into the van. I had to drill a 20mm hole to fit both cables. One has a cat5 plug on the end. I do believe that the later models only have one cable.
From memory the Camos locks on to more satellites than the KVH. But I'd be guided by fitted price first. Ergonomics is a discriminator I know nothing about.
I don't think theres much in it to be honest, the only thing that i can see is the component's of the Camos are plastic and the KVH are steel, but hey who knows how either is going to last!! i went for the KVH for quality fitments and product, so i would say like anything its down to choice! i also bought the in motion one as im all for ease of use
Had a Camos for about three years now. Operationally no problem whatsoever. However, it's only a small dish and struggles sometimes for signals say in Spain for instance. UK-wise perfect, and like another poster said it's protected by the dome so hopefully should last a long time.
Control box can be set to find about half a dozen different satellites (one at a time). This it does efficiently if in range.
When I was looking into these I recall that the main difference between the two was that the KVH dish was larger at 50cms as opposed to the Camos - 40 cms.
In theory this should mean that you would get better coverage abroad but in practice who knows.
As far as I recall the KVH can access the same range of satellites as the Camos. There is a map of satellite coverage on the KVH site and range looks incredibly impressive.
In the end I decided to buy a Maxview crankup. But will probably go for a KVH on my next van.
