Hi all,

I'm considering fitting a satellite dish to my motorhome...probably a Camos crank-up flat system, but possibly a more conventional Maxview dish (to be honest, choice will probably be dictated more by local fitter availability than anything else...I've been stung in the past with things going wrong and the dealer not being local).

The thing is, if possible I'd like to retain my existing terrestrial aerial (Maxview Gazelle) :

- would prefer to have a backup for if there's a tree in the wrong place, and

- I have a radio in the back of my motorhome fed from the aerial. I know there's radio on Sky, but I've got a multi-speaker setup and the TV output isn't in the same league.

Has anyone got any experience of trying to fit a dish and aerial on the roof together? I've nothing else on the roof, but am a bit limited for space as ideally both would be fed from within a cupboard rather the having the dish cranking handle visible in the ceiling. How close can I get away with the aerial being to the dish without interfering with satellite performance?

If all else fails, I'll fit a conventional telescopic FM aerial and carry a cheapie directional aerial for "tree emergencies".

I have an Oyster and a 530 with a sky box so using the RF output to a second TV so that my Wife can have her injection of Coronation Street whilst I watch something different

I have had two motorhomes with Maxview crank up dishes and found them to be very good and cost effective, on both the vans the Sat dish was mounted centrally away from the TV aerial (which is fed into the wardrobe) the circular control for the Maxview is not obtrusive and I would recommend this installation if you have the space on your roof.

The information and a picture of the control will be found on Snellyvision site

Thanks both.

...think an Oyster system's a bit out of my league.

Mounting the crankup sat away from the cupboard is an interesting option...not concerned about being able to see the cranking handle myself, but just need to talk the missus around...

If you position the aerial below or behind the dish there'll obviously be no problem at all. The best all-round aerial is the Vision V10-040 log-periodic. It's a true wideband and isn't encumbered with a vertical "reflector" so it doesn't take up much room. I don't get around much nowadays but I've had good results from 35 miles south of Winter Hill transmitter and 30 miles north of Bilsdale mast.
