Hi

We currently have a sky+ box and a standard sky box (Multiroom) setup. The sky+ box (about 3 years old) has been playing up for the last couple of months and Im thinking of changing to Virgin media (were in a cable area). Can any of the experts here answer the following:

Can you still use the sky card in the van (have a spare Sky box in there) post contract to view the normal chanels?

Any one know an easy way of getting a replacment Sky+ Box without having to pay £120 upfront?

Can you get the functions of a Sky+ box from Virgin (ie record 2 chanels etc)?

Are there deals comming up in the new year for either Sky or Virgin?

I would change to Sky for all my TV, Phone and BB but we are at the end of the line for BB ( too far from the exchange) so canot get more than 1mb (Currently on 10 with virgin - usually get 6-7mb).

i think all that you can get from sky you can get from virgin, but my son has just changed from virgin to sky because virgin was so unreliable and would freeze up all the time i think your best bet is to stay with sky and get your box fixed, i've had a couple fixed for about £60, all in all sky seems to be the best deal, even if they are not the best people to deal with, trust me i've had some dealings with them, dennis

I got my Sky+ for £99 by declining installation and getting them to post it to me.

Faults are invariably motherboard or disc related. If the latter, you can do things from the software menus to reconfigure etc and I'd try this before giving up the ghost. But only as a last resort. Don't be surprised if your box was shaky you might make it terminal.

Virgin do a V+ box. You can timeshift (?) and record two channels while watching a third. I believe it also has HDMI connection.

They were doing a special offer, don't know if it is still on.

Well if you must pay monthly subscriptions for TV my son takes Virgin Plus Cable in preference to Sky Plus without any problems. I believe it offers much more flexibility than Sky too. However my preference is Freesat and when they eventually increase digital transmitter power, Freeview as well. No subscriptions necessary.

I use Virgin Cable for broadband and telephone and have no complaints.

If you are on a top package, phone sky and tell them you wish to cancel, explain its because the box is faulty. They will then try to sell you a new one. If you tell them that you cant afford it they will, in the end after much bartering , offer you a free replacement. You may haver to agree to a new 12 month contract, but that shouldnt be a problem if you want sky.

The above is right. The v+plus box also up-scales to near hi def quality as well.

Hi

I had a Sky HD+ box fitted on Friday. I paid £99 for the box but as I had complained and stated that I was thinking about leaving I got free instalation and £60 of for not getting the full service for the previous few months. All in all I got the box for £40.

I was told by the Engineer that there will be an anouncment this Wed by Sky on a major change, he thought it was possible scrapping the £10 PCM HD fee or free upgrade to Sky+ from a standard box. They have recruited 500 extra engineers for this. If anyone knows what is happening then please post soonest

I have recieved a new Sky card in the post today which only gives the basic (BBC, ITV & C4 varients) channels. Is there a way I can get this card activated so we can use it in the Sky box in the van. We usually take the one from the house, but I (note its always my fault Confused )keep forgetting to take it.
