Hi All

I'm about to buy a motorhome at a very good price, a A Class Hymer Fiat Ducato 2.5 Turbo Deisel, 1989.

It has been put through MOT by seller, and he has informed me, sailed through apart from a advisory note saying slight spray of oil on the two front shock absorbers.

Now the motorhome has nothing wrong with it apart from that, and it's a good a price, so my question, would this mean at some point soon i will need to get the front shocks changed or could it mean something bigger?? and is that a expensive job (the shocks changed)??

or is the advisory note nothing to be worried about..

at the end of the year we will be taking the morohome on a extended tour of europe for between 1 and 2 years!

All advise welcome ASAP, as i need to get back to seller..

my thoughts are still to buy, but i was wanting to check..

Thanks

Mark&Lorna

Hi

If you are happy with the price then go for it. Maybe the shocks have a slight leak but to be expected on a vehicle of that age. Not a major or too expensive operation to replace them.

Usually if shocks leak then it is a wetting of the pushrod, and when worse a dribble down the side of the case.

The wording you have used implies to me that something else has sprayed oil onto them. Is it worth having a look around and checking for some other source of oil (impending leak)?

would have to be a major and obvious oil leak to spray on to both front shock absorbers as a an ex mot tester [retired 8 years ago] we always adviced on slight leaks from shock absorber seals or glands these slight leaks or bleeds could last for years its probably only the tester covering himself from any come back on the mot

Why not ask the chap who mot'd what he thinks, he's seen them and should be able to give advice and maybe a price which you could figure in to your deal with the seller.
