I could do with some help/advice from experienced people.
I have a EOS 400D Digital which is excellent. However my older camera is/was a Canon EOS 50DSLR (non Digital ) It was dropped into canal from my bag with lens attached. Lens is a Sigma 28-105mm Aspherical 3.8-5.6. Not an expensive lens but was not too bad. After it was fished back out of canal ( it took 20 minutes to get it back ) it seems ruined. I mentioned this to a camera shop and the reply was "It is not really worth spending the money on a strip down and repair" What do I do? Just bin Lens and Camera or sell it on cheaply to someone who could use/repair it or take some of it for parts. I wont be using it again as I have the Canon Digital. Confused

Going by the state of your bloodshot eyes I'd give camera viewfinders a rest for a while.

Last time I looked at camera second hand prices to sell an SLR I decided it wasn't worth the hassle of dealing with eBay enquiries/ sale Sad

Since all modern SLRs have a lot of electronics in them, and the lens has an ultrasonic electric motor plus CPU etc, I doubt very much whether anything can be salvaged. Regardless of the electronics, the glass surfaces in the lens and camera viewfinder / flash sensor etc, will have been coated with a film of canal water slime.

Cut your losses would be my advice.

Thanks to JeanLuc, artona and DABurleigh. It looks like it's certainly not worth bothering about so, I will just hold onto camera/lens and if someone in any discussion mentions parts I will contact them.
