After a recent thread re scanning photographs I decided to start and scan my large collection of slides onto the PC.

The ones I processed my self from the 80's are holding their colour well, but a box I have just opened from 1976 processed by Kodak are decidedly losing their colour.

So if you intend to scan your old slides, make a start before its to late!

the upper slide is from the 80's, the lower one the 70's

Thanks for that reminder.
We have loads to do and have been promising ourselves for the last few years that we'll get them done.
Our move to a new house last year brought them all out from their various hiding places and we have now collected them into an easy to get at position.

We've been put off by the price of a slide/strip scanner with a decent user recommendation.
We were looking for a new all-in-one printer a few months ago and considered buying one which incorporated the slide/strip scan facility.
In the end we bought a Canon MP610 All-in one which can't scan slides but is excellent in its other functions and leaving the slide question to be sorted later. We have still to sort it. Sad

A timely reminder, so thanks. We've also unearthed the large box containing all ours, but - even worse - now have my late parents' collection handy too, so need to crack on. It's a job I really want to do - I made a start a couple of years ago & really enjoyed it - but keeps getting put off. Sad

Thanks. That might be the incentive/ motivation I need at least to start. I've been dreading it. Well I still am, really.

Same here, we have loads to do, but our old scanner (HP) did not do a decent job. Does anyone have any recommendations for a reasonably priced but acceptable quality piece of kit?

I think this slide scanner is reasonably priced

I am using one of these

http://www.itreviews.co.uk/hardware/h1329.htm

It only does 4 at once but now I have got into it, its not as bad as I thought it would be, and the quality is much better than I expected.

But it is addictive as old memories are resurrected Very Happy Very Happy

I bought a Canon 4200F Scanner via Ebay. ( Canon themselves sell a lot of refurbished returns via Ebay ).

I bought it for A4 scanning, but it also has an ingenious device in the lid which handles Slides and 35mm Negatives.

Great fun embarassing the kids with old holiday pics. Remember knitted trunks ?

The technology isn't my problem - I've had this all-in-one printer/scanner hanging off my home network for a while now, and very, very pleased with it I am. It scans 6 * 35mm film strip or 4 slides at a time:

Rather it is the dread of the time it will take. But you are right - it could well end up a compulsive, additive activity so perhaps we ought to fete it more as a self-help solution to MHF addiction?

Go for an Epson perfection photoscanner. The V100 model is about £65 comes with an attachment to hold 4 slides and software to clean up the scans as well.

Did a great job on my old collection recently scanned, stored and backed up to external hard drive.
