I am putting this up in case someone else has the same problem.

My cannon A70 stopped taking pictures. Everything else worked. As it is quite old I was thinking of giving up on it. By chance I looked at their web site and found that this was a known Cannon fault that they were aware of and giving a free repair - even if well out of guarantee. I posted the camera to their repair agent Tuesday returned Friday working again.
