The subject says it all. There used to be a tweak whereby you could get the Piclens functionality on your photos stored on your local hard disc rather than via the internet/ browser. As far as I'm aware this can no longer be done.
Just had a look on the Piclens home page; there is a request on there for developers to enable it for use on PC hard drives, so it look likes its not possible at the moment
I had not looked at Cooliris before I saw your post but I have been playing with it for awhile today ...and I have found a couple of ways to use it to browse pictures on the HDD.
There is a program called Piclens Publisher << which will create a web page for you that you can access from your local drive...only problem is that the created webpage does not like IE7 and you end up at the Cooliris front page each time it runs... but then I noticed that if I run it in Microsoft Frontpage on preview all is well it runs just like the online version.
But then I found This forum << where you can see, if you follow the link, a guy has posted a link to an exe file which when run ( it does not instal) creates two small files inside any album of pictures that you wish to view with Cooliris... but there is the same problem, it will not run in IE7 so I have to use Frontpage's preview .... apparently both of these will run in Firefox ... I do not have firefox on this PC so have not tried it yet
I have checked and run the exe prog from the forum link above ( sandboxed and in the open) and it seems to be safe but don't blame me if it eats your computer IMO It is much better than the Piclens Publisher as it just adds a couple of files to any album...you do not need to create a whole new folder containg a created webpage. ( I did create test albums when trying it )
In that forum there is talk of an offline viewer being released so keep your eyes open for it.
Thanks for the post I really like the Cooliris viewer... it is fun to use .

For the non nerdy Cooliris << is available here ....it makes viewing internet pictures really good fun

I've been using Cooliris for some time, and have to say, it's more than for photographs. The latest version has a handy "Discover" option (launch Cooliris and it's on the menu on the left)
From here you can access news items / interesting videos / sports music videos etc in the same way. A wall of images highlighting what's on the web, and from each one you can quickly go to the page the story / image came from. This is how the internet should be!
Great to hear there may be a desktop version coming, as a keen photographer, this would be a great way to find that elusive shot on the hard-drive.
New in Cooliris 1.10 Beta
Images stored on your computer now viewable in Cooliris
My Photos
You've enjoyed the Cooliris experience online, and now you can view photos stored locally on your Hard Drive, your Desktop, iPhoto, My Pictures, and really anywhere you can hide them.
Thanks for finding that Beta ... They hid that away did they not
I have installed it and it is just what you ordered ...once launched it has "My computer" showing with the other sources at the top left and it will browse through any local folder for images.... brilliant.
It seems to add a new life to my old pictures that have not been looked at for a while.
Mike
