HI,
We have just purchased a tv for our van, I was just going to connect it to an ordinary out side tv arial for UK use, but then i saw some FTA 12 volt satellite reciver boxes on E-bay for £50(max),(octagon sf 218),(comag).
I know i will have to get a satellite arial as well but just wondered if anyone had tried one of these cheap boxes and if thay are any good.Any advice will be greatfully recived as i know nothing about these things.
Thanks,
P

Hello,

I have just bought the SL65 (Comag, Silverline, Tevion, etc) sold by the likes of Aldi, Lidl etc.

It comes complete with the dish and receiver for the £50 you talk of (I bought mine last week from ebay for £39 plus postage).

I have been testing it in the garden and have found 4 or 5 different satellites with ease (Not to blow my own trumpet but I was interested in this sort of stuff many moons ago which might of helped).

If your into your "techy stuff", then if you look for the version with the B1 chipset you can "hack it" to get a bit more out of it also (I would'nt recommend doing this unless your really into that "type of stuff")

I have had it tracked to Astra (28e) for the past couple of days and the quality of picture has been superb, with very little pixelisation.

I am well made up with it - though I know to get any use out of it in europe I will need a bigger dish (do a search for "Astra Satellite Footprint Map" for a dish size guide)

GOOD LUCK.

Hi

I got one of the B grade camping systems from Maplins for £28. Threw away the rest of the set and kept the comag.

Bought a tripod and 65cm dish from ebay for about £60.

.....a fully working sat system for less than £100. It was quite novel at first, but soon got bored with trying to find sat which became more difficult the further south we went. Gave up at Tittisee, and never bothered getting it out for the next 3/4 months.
