Has anyone any experience of replacing a branded camera battery (in my case Oympus), with a cheap unbranded one, available at much lower cost, are they esentially the same ?

Phil

Soon after we bought a Panasonic Lumix camera about 3 years ago we bought a second battery so we had a second charged one available.
Bought it off the internet and much cheaper than the Panasonic branded one on sale at the camera supplier.
The battery is branded hahnel and on the reverse says Lithium-Ion battery and Panasonic type so obviously intended as a replacement for the original.
Although it's slighly thinner we have had no problems with it in the camera's battery compartment ie moving/poor contact.

From our experience to date there seems no difference in the battery life in the camera and it fits the original charger.

I've used Canon look-a-likes from www.7dayshop.com and had no problems with them.

I got one for Mrs Zeb's camera on FleaBay from Japan, at a cost of about £2.50 for the battery - plus a bit more than that for the postage.

It has lasted three years and seems identical in performance to the forty quid OEM battery. Shocked Shocked Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad

Thanks to you all for your replies, they were a great help.

I can now confidently order a cheaper unbranded replacement. Very Happy

Yep - I have unbranded li-ion ebay batteries for both cameras - one is better than the original, and the other is the same.

I bought one for a panasonic lumix with a 12v charger for the van for £8 or so!

so do it! Smile

Yes I bought one for my friends Olympus camera from the internet and works just fine.

When I changed my fuji (also had an unbranded one for that) to a Panasonic lumix I also bought a second one unbranded/hahnel for that but this time from LCE (London cmera Exchange shop) locally also reasonably priced and works ok.

Also Panasonic SD cards were £10 at LCE and much more at Panasonic shop. BUT only £4.99 through Amazon for 2Gb so bought two.
