we bought our m/h in august 08 so wont be long before it wants a service, just been to ford and thet want £180 for oil and filter change which i think is a bit steep,
i was told if you buy genuine parts you can get a VAT reg garage to do it and your warranty stays valid is this true?
if it wasnt for the warranty i wouldnt bother as its only done 4.5k and then i would have done it myself.
Go to your friendly garage, make sure they are genuine ford parts, and keep the bills, maybe go to get the ford parts yourself, you then have a bill for the ford parts and the service, and you know what parts were used, also get the fuel filter changed, there could be all sorts of crap in the fuel tank from the build process, also get the brakes checked and the wheel alignment, as this will be the last time anyone goes near it for a long time.
It just depends how long the warranty lasts. I'm in the same boat mine is due at the end of the year for £180 but the warrany runs out 2010. I think I will do it myself as I have done on my previous 2 M/Hs
Ours is a July 2007 model and our first service cost £150 and it does not cover for an oil change. A Ford Technician told me the schedule for the work allows for 36 minutes. Does'nt that work out at £250 / hour !

That is true and I believe that they only need to be to OE spec not necessarily 'genuine' however it's not worth the penny pinching at this stage buying non-Ford bits. I always did my own servicing on my motorbike and never had any problems getting warranty work done.
Hi
I have a 2006 M/H on a Ford chassis, my last service cost me just under 300 pounds mileage was about 8000 miles they insisted that ford would not warrant braking system if I did not have fluid change, labour for that alone was 35 pounds, 86 pounds for oil. I tell you these main dealers are right rip off, my son kept telling me he would do the service [ he is a qualified mechanic ] but me being STUPID says no because of the warranty, well that ends in june so the can go shove their heads up their proverbial backsides. I did complain to Ford but it fell on deaf ears but they did say about the fluid change it is "only recommended", so steer clear of Evans Halshaw [Pendragon group].
Just had the 1st service carried out at W R Davies the Ford agent in North Wales £128 all in including the vat on our Mk 7 Transit. Perhaps worth a short break in our part of the world, and get the camper serviced at the same time. They were really helpful as well.
Our previous base vehicle was a Fiat Ducato £232 at the Fiat agent
cheers again chaps, ive found a local place http://www.candscaravans.com/ they asked £100+vat for habitation check and i dont think it will be much more for the service, they can do all the work and my warantee will stay valid
