I'm thinking of getting a Dreambox for my MH...sick of carrying the Skybox in and out of the house, plus it's just unpredictable - this weekend had my satellite signal detector indicating loads of signal, sky box saying lots of signal, reasonable signal quality indicated, locked onto signal...but still "no satellite signal is being received".

I have Sky multiroom with premium channels. So, some questions;

- I'm thinking of a Dreambox 500S at approx £60-70. Is it any good? is there any point in getting one of the more expensive units?

- Can I put my sky viewing card in it and get all the channels? What happens about pairing the card to the box? Does the Dreambox mimic the already paired skybox somehow?

- How easy is it to set up? Is it plug & play or would I have to program that e.g. Dave is on 111, Sports on 401 etc?

- Is there any way I can get away with "reading" the sky viewing card into the dreambox then leaving the viewing card at home? (If so it'd be great because it would head off the complaints from Sky about their box not being plugged into phone line with card inserted when they ping it).

- The pictures I've seen have a remote control. Does this come with the box or is it an extra?

Thanks in advance,

Paul

Hi Paul

You need an expert on the Dreambox.

I suggest you drop a PM to snelly, he knows his stuff on them, you'll find him here:

The 500 is fine , unless you want to record it will do the job.
Make sure its a real one not a clone, some software will refuse to work on the clones

With the right software, ccamd you will get all your card channels and dont need to pair, the card will auto update too

- How easy is it to set up? Is it plug & play or would I have to program that e.g. Dave is on 111, Sports on 401 etc?

Thats the biggest pain, the box will search but not number as per sky, there is a software available to edit the channel list.

No , but they only moan if its been unplugged for months , once you are out of the initial 12 months they rarely complain. my multi room cards been in my DM7000 for well over a year

- The pictures I've seen have a remote control. Does this come with the box or is it an extra?

Should get the remote with it

I have the 500s which I use in conjunction with a Camos dome. That enables me to search other satellites as well as Astra. I am afraid that I am no good on technical matters so can't help you on much else. I understand that it is considered illegal to use the sky card in the 500s.
