Hi Y'all

My Sky card has suddenly stopped working in my Pace 12v digibox. Message on screen "This is the wrong card for this set top box" There is also a "Viewing Card Help" This announces that "Sky will be issuing new viewing cards over the next few months to provide a secure service."

I have used my card for the past 8 months without problem.

I took card home, put it in 240v Sky box at home and it works normally. Brought it back to van and getting same messages re wrong card.

Any ideas?

Sal

The Sky card is supposed to be paired to a box. If it is in another box, it has always been the case you cannot receive premium channels to which you have subscribed, unless you break the terms of your Sky contract with such things as a Dreambox.

Hi Dave and thanks for quick response.

Yes, I know we can't get the premium channels such as Sky Sports but we have been able to get all the other channels. Now we can only get BBC and ITV, Sky News and CNN.

Perhaps your set needs a downloaded upgrade.

Switch it off at the supply.

Keeping the 'back up' button pressed, turn the power back on

Keep the 'back up' button pressed and after several seconds you should get a download screen message - then you can release the button.

You will need to leave the set switched on for at least an hour - maybe longer - to receive the upgrade so it may be a good idea to be on MHU and not need to go out straight away!

Right - then it's likely that SKY themselves are responsible. Over the years I've had to call them one or twice to re-activate my card that for technical reasons - mostly because I hadn't used it for a month or two - had 'dropped out'. You can call their technical support on 08442 411411
and ask them to re-activate your card - they'll ask you to look at the 'on screen display' on your TV and then give you several instructions to see if it's got the most recent upgrade (which it has, because you've just done it!) so make sure it's all switched on and up and running before you call them. Afterwards they'll tell you to leave your set switched on for up to 24 hours (!) but in practice it's never taken them more than three hours for me - but nevertheless be warned!

OK. I thought it sounded like Sky. Strange that we were watching it OK for a week or so and then suddenly no more sirree. Thing is, I nipped home (happened to be staying in MH near home) and tried it at home and there is no problem there. So, if I ring Sky from the MH with no phone line attached - how does that work out? It bugs me because I pay a subscription and does it matter whether I watch it in my brick building or by tin building.

Hi time-traveller,

I just tried the upgrade thing you mention, but my box, just sits there off, it doesn't come back on till I press Sky on the remote.

To Sky, yes. And you agreed to its terms Smile TV is a competitive market, so you can always go elsewhere.
