MS Office 2003 Displaying Recent Files

EXCEL Whenever a Spreadsheet is in use and I then open the ‘File’ dialogue, at the bottom of that dialogue box (Close, Save etc, etc) there is a list of the most recent spreadsheets which were worked upon:
i.e Displays ‘1 to 4’ with the full File paths for each one shown. With just a click I can then re-open whichever one I need.

Although I cannot find where to do it, somewhere there IS an option to increase that number of previous sheets used because I was able to display the last ‘1 to 9’ spreadsheets on my old XP PC (which used the same version of MS Exel 2003. My new PC is Vista, but I don’t think that that is an issue here.)

So - please could someone advise me how to increase the number of previously used spreadsheets within that File Dialogue Box; from ‘1 to 4’ to ‘1 to 9’ ?

WORD: The same need applies:
i.e. to increase the number of previously used Documents within the Word File Dialogue Box; from ‘1 to 4’ to ‘1 to 9’

I frequently work on several worksheets/Documents/Images but the Vista ‘Recent Items’ is not much use if I have been hopping around between these;
so increasing the number of Vista ‘Recent Items’ available to view (Currently 15) would be most desirable, too!

If I remember correctly you need to go into Tools, Options and I think General tab. On there should be a box where you can change the number of files to display.

In both Word and Excel click Tools->Options select the General tab and increase the number in "Recently used file list". Maximum is 9

Hope that helps

Well, I am going from memory here as I now mostly use a Mac, and in that it is in Preferences/General. So I think for the Windoze version it will be under Tools/Options. Then you should find a tab with the option to <display xx documents in "open recent> or words to that effect. Same logic applies for all Office products.

I am sure a Win user will shout if that is wrong, otherwise, I'll check next time I blow the dust off my desktop PC!

Thanks Philip (& Keith & All Others rapidly replying!!)

Philip's & Keiths advice has just been applied and I am one Happy Bear, again.

Well done both, where would we be without the full range of MHF Experts like yourselves!
