Hi

I have been talking to a company that specialises on setting up / calibrating monitors and printers.

If this is new to you it basically means setting up the monitor so that what you see on screen is what you get on the final print and setting up the printer so that when you print from photoshop etc you get the very best colours.

They also do training days and I have spoken to them about doing one at the studio here near Market Rasen, Lincs. We have pencilled it for Friday July 31st. If it goes ahead and there are enough interested we could make it a 3 day event and turn it into a photo weekend. I am hoping Snelly has the campsite end finished by then but if not we can use the space by the studio like we did last time.

Anyone interested, if you just wanted to make the weekend without the Friday or visa versa no problem

Hi Stew,
I would love to come but we are down in Dorset and I have hip problems at the moment so we are limiting our touring area to suit. However if you could help me on one query I would be grateful. I take my photos on setting 5m. Which usually brings them out sizewise to circa 1.37mb and 2592x1944. I usually resize them using Paint-image-resize, usually to 30% for emails. But I know there is something else on Vista I can use to specifically resize by pixels: an example Carthago owners uk want 1024x768 for their website. If you could guide me in the right direction would be grateful. Just one other point whilst here, on my vista I have all my pictures in Windows Gallery but today I have clicked on my pictures shortcut and there are non of my photo folders there!! It should be under documents 'My pictures' shouldn't it. Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad
Love you pictures,
Wendy

Hi

Excellent. So we have three so far, myself, Frank and Dave. The colour day on the Friday will cover the following.

Colour Management for Digital Photographers.

For those with digital cameras or digital capture from film who are displaying images on screen and printing to desktop inkjet and want to have colour consistency across their workflow.

Suitable for those experienced with handling images on computers whether professional or amateur photographers.

The course covers:

Colour Theory
The basics physics and biology of colour vision and how computers use colour.

How Colour Management Works
How the ICC system of colour management incorporates device measurement and colour conversions to achieve consistent colours across devices.

Calibrating & Profiling Monitors
A hands on session calibrating and profiling a monitor using X-Rite EyeOne Display Colorimters.

Using Photoshop to Colour Manage your Images
An explanation of and a chance to practice applying colour management within Adobe Photoshop (and Elements) including assigning profiles, converting between colour spaces and printing with profiles.

Colour Managing Digital Photography
Explaining and demonstrating the three approaches to colour managing digital photography; camera settings, RAW and custom profiling.

Profiling Scanners
A demonstration of how to profile a scanner to get better colour.

Profiling Inkjets & Dye-Subs
A demonstration of how to profile an inkjet printer to get prints that more closely match your monitor.

Colour Managed Workflows
A explanation of how to ensure consistent colour across devices and software and also the implications of supplying images to others.

Course Requirements
This course is suitable to those already competent with using computers for photography and conversant in using Photoshop.

What to bring
Nothing needed for this course.

We will be having an expert coming up for this day and there will be a charge involved to cover his fee. The fee will depend on how many attends but will be somewhere in the region of £50 to £100.

I first had someone in to calibrate our systems a few years ago and the difference in quality we got out of the same equipment was amazing.

The rest of the weekend will run as a workshop as we have done before where we all brain storm the subject of photography

How conversant do you need to be with Photoshop? It sounds as if you need to be pretty adept with it. Is that a fair assessment?

I'd love to go but I don't want to waste my money on something that's way above my head. Perhaps you could give me some detailed advice.
